Cleveland Browns 2011 Draft

The Browns had an ok season in 2010 and in Colt McCoy may have unearthed their QB for the next 10 years. Given his lack of weapons and the poor O-Line in front of him his six TDs to nine interceptions can be forgiven and we think that the Browns should use their no 6 pick to give him someone to throw to. OK its a gamble having an inexperienced QB throwing to a rookie, but if they gel then the Browns will have the key part of a winning team for many years to come.

So we think they should go and grab either A.J.Green or if he is gone Julio Jones – at least one of them will be left. Will the Browns go this way, probably not given the management seem to love the defense and they could use a stud Defensive End, and no one would fit them better here than Robert Quinn, who can also fill in at OLB if needed. They do need an Inside Linebacker, however addressing this at pick 6 would be too rich and they should be able to fill this hole in the second round or possibly latter. Clemson star Da’Quan Bowers would have also came into the reckoning had he been injury free, however he is a bit if a risk at 6 given the knee problems.

So we think they should take a WR but they will probably go with Quinn.

2010 AFC North Season Prediction

Baltimore Ravens logo

Last season the Cincinnati Bengals came from now where to not only take the division but also record a rare 6-0 divisional record, however it is unlikely that lightening can strike twice even with the addition of wiener sucking Terrell Owens, however with the Browns also set to improve this looks like one of the toughest divisions in the NFL this season, possibly second only to the NFC East. The winner of this division could go a long way in the post season and should produce one of the Wild Cards again.

The Baltimore Ravenswere our Super Bowl tip last year and although they won a post season game they didn’t look convincing on offense coming up short on occasion. Five of their losses were by less than a TD and that lack of firepower ultimately cost them dear. However this year they seem to have addressed their wide receiver issue by picking up Anquan Boldin and Donte Stallworth who although injured will still be back in time for the serious end of the season. Picking up TJ Houshmandzadeh has just added extra spice to what now looks a potent offense, and their losses on defense should be plugged by their two 2ndround draft picks Sergio Kindle andTerrence Cody both of whom could easily have gone in the first round. Its been 10 seasons since the Ravens last graced the Super Bowl and this year they could be back. Given the question marks against the Steelers at QB they should be good enough to take the division.

The Pittsburgh Steelers missed out on the playoffs last yearthanks to an inexplicable loss of form which saw them lose 5 games in a row including bad defeats to Kansas City, Oakland andCleveland. None of their 7 losses was by more than a TD however and by resigning the likes of Casey Hampton & Ryan Clark they have kept the core of the team together. Maurkice Pouncey looks an inspired draft choice giving them versalility on the Offensive Line and picking up Byrant McFadden has ensured they will have one of the best secondary’s in the AFC. They will push the Ravens all the way and could face them in the AFC Championship game as they did a couple of seasons ago. The loss of Roethlisberger will hurt the team but with that suspension now only 4 games the Steelers should make the post season despite being in such a tough division.

The Cincinnati Bengals will find it hard to repeat last seasons heroics and they looked like they were running out of steam badly towards the end effectively limping into the post seasson with only one win in their last 4 games. There they were soundly beaten by the Jets and this season they dont have the luxury of an easy schedule to fall back on. In fact theirs looks pretty ugly with 11 of their games being against genuine play off contenders. They could easily slump to 8-8 and its hard to see them making a wild card with that.

The Cleveland Browns finished the season strongly however in this company its hard to see how they can finish anywhere but bottom. They have rang the changes offloading a heap of players and although they have brought in some solid players its hard to see where the improvement will come from. They have drafted with an eye to the future and although it is almost certain that in time Mike Holmgren will turn the franchise around it will not be this season. if they can match their 5-11 finish of 2009 they will be happy.

Forecast Final Finishing Positions

1. Baltimore Ravens

2. Pittsburgh Steelers

3. Cincinnati Bengals

4. Cleveland Browns

Cleveland Browns D’Qwell Jackson Injured Again

The Cleveland Browns were dealt another blow yesterday when their 1st choice Inside Line Backer (ILB) D’Qwell Jackson left the field with what looked like a nasty injury. Having missed the last 10 games of the 2009 season with a torn chest muscle hopes were high that he would be available to bolster the team, who ended the season in good form.

With Corner back Eric Wright defensive lineman Brian Schaefering and linebacker Marcus Benard all picking up injuries earlier this week, things are not looking good for the Browns, who will need every player at their disposal if they are to have any chance of finishing off the bottom of the brutal AFC North.

There is no news on the extent of the injuries, but both Wright & Jackson will probably  miss the opening preseason game against the Green Bay Packers.

The Cleveland Browns Increase Their Roster Age Again With Bobby Engram

The Cleveland Browns will not be short of experience this season and they have added more with the signing of Veteran Wide Receiver Bobby Engram. With this signing they now have 18 players 30 or over on their roster.

Having said that Engram is a decent player and his poor number over the last two seasons are more to do with the teams he played in rather than his lack of ability. He will get on well with his ex head coach Mike Holmgren who guided him to his most successful season in 2007 when hi gained over 1100 yards. If he can get anywhere near his 2007 numbers he will be a big help for the Browns who really struggled through the air last season.

Cleveland Want The Rams 1st Draft Pick

The Cleveland Browns General Manager Tom Heckert says the Browns have  been in contact with the St Louis Rams regarding moving up the draft to take Sam Bradford with the No. 1 overall pick. Despite signing Jake Delhomme Cleveland would still benefit from a franchise quarter back and with 10 draft picks this year they could offer a good package.
