Expect Fireworks on the Pitch As LSU Take On Alabama For a BSC Championship Place

Finally the game we have been looking forward to for a few weeks is upon us and this Bonfire night this seasons two giants of college football clash in what will in all probability reward one of them with a place in the National Championship.

LSU have been top ranked for a while now and justifiably so having beaten some very good teams in going 8-0. Most notable was their opening game win against Oregon which looks especially good now that the Ducks have went on a nice run since.

The Crimson Tide haven’t put a foot wrong this season either and they have a mean defense, can run the ball with the best of them and their passing game is good enough if not spectacular.

This is almost too close to call but with home field advantage and the coaching skills of Nick Saben we just have to give the edge to the Tide.

Whoever wins this should be one hell of a game and should live up to its billing.

Stanford Stay Unbeaten In 3 OT USC Clash

Stanford outlasted PAC-12 rivals USC in a game which had three overtime sessions and there is still a chance that Andrew Luck will say goodbye to his college career with a BSC Championship game.

In a drama filled night USC had the chance of pulling off a shock, leading in both the Third and Fourth Quarters and in the second period of OT they again led 48-41 before being pegged back.

However it was to be Stanford’s night and Stepfan Taylor’s 5 Yd run and Lucks two point conversion meant there was no way back for USC.

Now Stanford will be watching Oklahoma State’s schedule with interest as they will know a slip up from them could easily leave them in pole position to take on either LSU or Alabama in the BSC Championship

Only 6 FBS teams left unbeaten In The races for the BSC

After a night of surprises and humiliations in the case of Kansas State the results mean that only the following remain unbeaten after nine weeks  – LSU, Alabama, Oklahoma State, Boise State, Stanford, and Houston.

Clemson who still had outside hopes of a championship place saw those evaporate at the hands of Georgia Tech who hit them with a second quarter blitz from which they never looked likely to recover.  The final score was 31-14.

Kansas State who had quietly sneaked into the top 10 thanks to a run of good wins largely produced by key plays saw their luck finally run out as they were hammered 58-17 by Oklahoma. Things might have been different if Anthony Cantele hadn’t missed a 25yard field goal which would have tied the scores, however when that missed you could see the confidence draining out of the Wildcats and the Landry Jones led Sooners then ran up the score somewhat making up for last weeks shock defeat to Texas Tech. Whatever the season brings though the Wildcats can be proud of their achievements.

So next week The FBS will be down to 5 unbeaten teams at best as LSU take on Clemson in a bonfire night showdown with the winner in all probability on their way to the National Championship.

College Footbal Week 9 Early Games Michigan State & Texas A&M Both Lose

Two teams who looked to have got their seasons back on track in recent weeks succumbed to surprise defeats earlier today. Michigan State who had risen to 11 in the BSC rankings thanks to big wins over Michigan and Wisconsin were brought back down to earth losing 24-3 against Nebraska. Nebraska won this one on the ground and there was only 166 yards of passing combined.

Texas A&M slumped to 5-3 overall thanks to an OT defeat against Missouri who trailed 17-28 in the 4th quarter. With tough games to come against the Sooners and Wildcats, this could end up a poor season for the Aggies.

Speaking of the Sooners & Wildcats they are currently playing each other and Oklahoma lead 20-17 in an intriguing encounter.

Is Kansas States BSC Championship Destinty in their own Hands?

Few will argue that either Alabama or LSU will compete in the BSC Championship this season, with the winner of their Nov 5th meeting undoubtedly taking the spoils. However who the eventual winner will face is still up for grabs, and although Oklahoma State seems to be everyone’s prediction in our opinion the team in most control of their destiny is the Kansas State Wildcats, who currently sit at 7-0 and wins in their next two games would almost certainly catapult them from No 8 into the top 4 at least.

Any chance they have will effectively end if they fail to beat Oklahoma on Saturday and although the Sooners are a good team they are not infallable aand are currently licking their wounded pride after their loss to Texas Tech. This dropped them to 9th in the BSC Rankings and effectively ended their Championship aspirations.

The Wildcats on the other hand have been a bit of a revelation in the Big 12 this season and their run of wins has not been against nobodies either as they have beaten Baylor and Texas Tech in recent weeks. Whether the Wildcats defense can cope with Landry Jones is a big question, however Kansas seem to be the masters of the big play this season and if they can keep it close then who knows.

Ironically one of the teams whos season they have ruined can do them a big favour on saturday as Baylor take on The Cowboys.

The big two might have the weekend off but there is still plenty to get excited about this Halloween weekend.
