Sooners Travel to Florida State looking to Stamp Their Authority on The 2011 Season Early

Oklahoma @ Florida State looks like being the most anticipated game of the weekend (by the neutrals anyway) and if as we expect Oklahoma win then they will retain their top ranking and will have taken a huge step towards the BSC title game.

Although history favours the Sooners, given the Seminoles have lost five straight to them, it wont one sided as Florida have looked sharp in their opening two games on both sides of the ball having scored 96 points and only conceded 10. However these wins have not been against the strongest of opposition and in our opinion they will struggle to contain Landry Jones. We are backing the Sooners to win by 7 points + in a high scoring game.

LSU Shut Down Mississippi State Offense to move to 3-0

LSU showed that when the going gets tough their defense gets going on Thursday night as they ground out a 19-6 win over a very good Mississippi State.

The game was close for 3 quarters as the teams exchanged field goals however going into the 4th quarter LSU , whos offense had been quiet finally sprung into life when  Jarrett Lee got a little too much time in the in the pocket, and found Rueben Randle, who despite the attentions of  two defenders managed to pull the ball in for a 19-yard touchdown.

This put the Tigers 16-6 up and with their defense in shut down mode there was no way back for the Bulldogs. LSU still had time to add another firld goal to round off the scoring.

The Bulldogs have now lost 2 conference games and its impossible to see them figuring the the BCS this year, on the other hand LSU look like real contenders and we can hardly wait for the the 5th November when there should be some fireworks when they travel to Alabama for what could decide the SEC West.

Michigan stun the Fighting Irish with Last Gasp TD

This was one of the days most anticipated games and it didn’t disappoint with Michigan grabbing a narrow win with a Touch Down with 2 seconds left on the clock.

Notre Dame looked like they were set to take the game when Theo Riddick scored from Tommy Rees 29 yard pass which game them the lead again following Michigan’s 4th Quarter Fight Back, however there was that final twist in the tail.

In the early stages it looked like Norte Dame were set to bounce back from their disappointing opening game loss to South Florida and they jumped off into a 14 point lead and going into the 3rd Quarter they led 24-7. However The Irish continued to fumble the ball in crucial situations and they were made to pay for their 5 turnovers as the Wolverines staged an amazing 4th Quarter comeback.

Three unanswered Tds in the Fourth gave Michigan the lead going into the final minute, however Notre Dame scored again against a tired Defense and with only 30 second left Michigan had to decide whether to go for a game tying Field Goal or try an win in normal time. They chose the latter and grabbed the winner with 2 seconds left.

An NCAA-record crowd of 114,804 watched this floodlight game and it certainly was one those lucky enough to be there will never forget.

Final Score 35-31.

Game Highlights

LSU March on Racking up 49 points against Northwestern State

The Tigers followed up las weeks hugely impressive win against Oregon with a demolition job on an outclassed Northwestern State, where they even had the luxury of being able to rest starters going into the second half.

Northwestern State were held to 95 yards total offense while LSU showed they have a powerful ground game to fall back on when the going gets tough running in 5 of their 7 TDs. The final Score was 49-3.

The Tigers will face more of a challenge next week and the week after when they face Mississippi State and West Virginia, however on their opening displays there is no reason to expect them not to be 4-0 after those games and that should set up a very interesting tie against the Chrimson Tide on 5th November – the winner of which could book a National Championship place.

Auburn Silence some of their Critics with a Big Win over Mississippi State

The defending BSC champions were supposed to have a relatively poor season in 2011 given the number of starters they lost and the brutal schedule, however they showed considerable pluck in holding off the highly regarded Mississippi State to move to 2-0 in the SEC West.

The Tigers started a underdogs in this one having dropped out of the rankings following a less than impressive win over Utah State, and in this one they had to show the same fighting spirit to hold out against the Bulldogs, who despite this defeat should have a good season.

The Bulldogs piled up 531 yards of offense compared to the Tigers 381 and dominated time of possession, however it was the Tigers who made the plays that mattered including a game saving last ditch tackle by Ryan Smith in the games last play which stopped the impressive Bulldogs QB Chris Relf virtually on the goal line.

The final Score was 41-34 and now Auburn will fancy their chances of making a 3-0 start when they face Clemson. On the other side the Bulldogs might find themselves 1-2 as they take on LSU who are looking like a BSC team already.
