Normally when a player goes 229 (round 7) in the draft no one pays any attention however this year it is intriguing as RB Bryce Brown a few years ago looked like a 1st round candidate. His High School career was pretty amazing (for someone who fell this far anyway) and had it not been for some questionable decision making in his senior career mainly revolving around him quitting Tennesse to join Kanasas State, which cost him his whole 2012 season then he would have been on more peoples radars. Also he was not invited to the 2012 NFL Combine so he never got a chance to showcase his talents.
He will be 21 on the 14th May so he still has plenty of time to develop and we thing that if he turns out to be half as good as he looked in 2008 when winning the Hall Trophy then the Eagles may have unearthed the biggest uncut diamond of the draft. We will be watching his career with interest.
One time dog fighting advocate Michael Vick seems to have gone full circle since his return to the NFL. Having done his time for being involved in the heinous crime he is now starring in (for free we hope) public service ads slating animal cruelty in any form. He will no doubt get some stick for this from his haters club, however we are impressed as it takes a lot of guts to stand up in public and effectively admit what he did was wrong and that he wants to make amends. However shouldn’t there be a dog in the clip and not just a football?
When the Cardinals drafted Patrick Peterson they potentially ad the best Cornerback pairing in the NFL, however fast forward to free agency and that potentially offence shutting down combination has gone via the trading of Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie for the so far unproven ex Eagle QB Kevin Kolb. Not only that but they gave away their 2012 second round draft pick too!!
We have yet to be convinced that Kolb is a starting QB and giving away a top 10 Corner and a probable top 50 draft pick for him looks like a bad decision; unless you are an eagles fan that is. Still Kolb will never get a better chance to shine than this starting in the weak NFC West and with a fairly easy schedule to boot. Plus with Larry Fitzgerald to throw to, he could rack up respectable numbers in 2011.
Kevin Kolb Talks About Becoming a Cardinal
Overall we feel that the Eagles will be the happier of the two teams when the dust settles on this trade and Philadelphia have jumped into our top 6 for 2011 thanks to their free agency moves.
I am not ready to call this a bad move, but I will say it is a move the reeks of desperation. The simple fact here is bad teams do bad things that paint.
The time had been rumored to be arriving ever since the Eagles took Kevin Kolb with the 37th overall pick in the 2007 NFL draft. Donovan McNabb’s days were supposed to be numbered, making way sometime soon for the “Kevin …
What are the 3 Problems Kevin Kolb has to overcome going to the Cardinals? 1. Self Doubt. Kevin goes to the Cardinals with the “unproven quarterback” label on his forehead. 2. Pressure of new team. For 7 years, Kevin has …
The uncertainty surrounding the current NFL collective bargaining agreement seems to be having a major effect on the decision making of the teams, with several high profile players being tagged this week.
The latest additions to what is fast becoming a who’s who of top talent includes Baltimores DT Haloti Ngata, Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick, and most surprisingly Colts Star QB Peyton Manning. Admittedly both Vick and Manning have received the “exclusive” designation preventing them from entering talks with other teams, however if the Collective Bargaining agreement does end in a lock out then a free for all could erupt in the NFL and deep pocketed franchises such as Washington could make a move.
Our view is that none of the franchise tagged players mentioned will be allowed to go and they will all be in their respective teams in 2011, still its a funny game football especially where money is involved.
Michael Vick engineered a nice come from behind win against The Houston Texans as the Eagles consolidated their place at the top of the NFC East. Trailing 24-20 going into the 4th Quarter and looking a bit the worse for wear having taken some heavy Vick led his team by example shrugging off his obvious bruising to run for the go ahead TD and then with just over 4 minutes left he threw another to put the game beyond Houston’s reach.
This was a mighty impressive performance against a good Texans side, who battled hard knowing that their playoff chances would be severely dented by a loss. As things now stand the Eagles have their destiny in their own hands and will take the NFC East if they win out. Their only real challengers the NY Giants will now have the pressure on them and will need to beat the Redskins to stay in touch half a game down.
As for the Houston Texans, well its hard to see where they go from here this season with their only chance of the post season likely to be winning the AFC South, which looks highly improbable given they would need a big slip up by both Indy and the Jags. Still they are continuing to improve and although they are the only NFL team not to make the post season this should change soon.
