St Louis Rams Keeping Their Quarter Back Options Open

The St Louis Rams general manager Billy Devaney has confirmed that they are by no means certain to take a quarter back with their no 1 pick in the 2010 draft. Having missed out on Donovan McNabb many expected them to take Sam Bradford (right) at no 1, therefore passing up on what in my opinion are two of the best Defensive Tackle prospects to enter the draft in years,  Ndamukong Suh and Gerald McCoy.

Although Sam Bradford is a great prospect he is not head an shoulders better than the other 1st round prospects and given there is only limited demand for them this year then there is an excellent chance of picking one up in the second round. This will be good news for both the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills who could see Sam Bradford and Jimmy Clausen fall through to picks 7 & 9. It sure looks like being an interesting draft this year.

St Louis Rams Release Quarter Back Marc Bulger

St Louis have just saved themselves $8.5m by releasing Marc Bulger and not find themselves somewhat thin at quarter back on the roster with a couple of untried near rookies and A J Feeley who hasn’t thrown a ball in anger since 2007.  So what now for the St Louis Rams who are in the enviable position of having 1st and 33 picks in the 2010 draft.

My initial view was that they would try and get Donovan McNabb who would have brought some stability and composure to an offense which has been misfiring badly for a few seasons now, but they obviously thought the 33rd pick was too high a price to pay, plus McNabb might not have been too happy joining a franchise which is still a year or two away from being competitive again.

The big question now for the Rams management is do they take Sam Bradford or Ndamukong Suh (pronounced En-dom-ah-ken Soo) with that coveted 1st pick. Both look great prospects and I personally think Suh is destined to become one of the top defensive tackles in the NFL providing he stays injury free. This throws up the question -is Sam Bradford that much better than the other quarter backs in this years offering which looks quite strong in this position.

Back in 2006 the Houston Texans shocked everyone by taking Defensive End Mario Williams ahead of the much vaunted pair Reggie Bush and Vince Young, however on reflection what a shrewd move that was. Will the Rams be brave enough to make a similar move this time?

St Louis Rams Consider Their Quarter Back Options

Although the St Louis Rams are still in the hunt for Eagles veteran QB Donovan McNabb, they are in the fortunate position of having the 1st pick in the draft and this gives them lots of options.  They are now planning to look at Colt McCoy who may very well fall through the 1st round of the draft and this would allow the Rams to pick him up at 33 which might be a better bet than taking Sam Bradford. We have always maintained the view that the No 1 pick should be Ndamukong Suh and that he will have a much bigger impact on any rebuilding team than a quarter back will. Getting a good quarter back and Suh will be good business for the Rams as they continue to rebuild and even if McCoy is gone one of the other decent quarter backs in this years draft will almost certainly slip through to no 33.

If St Louis are feeling really bold they could have a look at the likes of Jattett Brown out of West Virginia or even Fordham’s John Skelton either of whom could slip into round 3.  Given the number of 1st round QB’s who turn out to be expensive bench warmers this could be the best option for a franchise in St Louis’s position.

Will The Rams Take a QB As Their No1 Pick

Sam Bradford, quarterback for the Oklahoma Soo...

The 2010 draft looks like it will have four highly regarded Quarter Backs available this year given that Tim Tebow will be joining. As well as Tebow, Sam Bradford from Oklahoma and Jimmy Clausen from Notre Dame will be expected to figure highly in the draft order, and I think that Colt McCoy could also figure given there are a number of teams who have big needs in this area.  This throws up a bit of a dilemma for the St Louis Rams who will have to choose between getting their 1st choice QB or taking Defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh who looks an immense talent. Their decision could have a bearing on the 1st round picks for several teams as many will be hoping one of the four slips through to the second round. The Rams should take a chance in my opinion and go with Suh and hope that Colt McCoy or Jimmy Clausen can be taken with the 33rd pick.

This would make things interesting for the Detroit Lions who would then be left with the choice of taking Gerald McCoy or trading the number two pick for 3 or possibly even 4 latter picks which could help fill the holes they have in their roster. It looks like its going to be a very interesting draf this year.
