The Super Bowl is the Pinnacle of the NFL season when the winner of the American Football Conference meets the winner of the National Football Conference in a spectacular final game to decide who is the worlds best American Football team.
The first Super Bowl took place in 1967 between the winners of the National Football League (NFL) and the American Football League (AFL) as a precursor to the merger of the two leagues which took place in 1970. In 1970 the trophy was renamed as the Vince Lombardi Trophy in honour of the legendary Green Bay Packers coach who led them to victory in the first two Super Bowls.
The Super Bowl is now an institution attracting huge TV audiences worldwide, and advertisers even produce special one of adverts just for the show. Even non NFL fans are catered for with spectacular half time shows and other events now a big part of the event, although the 2004 show was not quite what the NFL had expected when Janet Jackson showed off a little more than she intended.
